Team Member Bio
As the Executive Community Liaison, Omar A. Sims is responsible for community outreach efforts around Medicaid in the mid-Michigan counties of Genesee, Shiawassee, Lapeer, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair and assists leadership in various health-related community building initiatives at HAP.
Omar has more than 20 years of experience serving the Greater Flint, Mich. community in various government, private and public sectors.
Prior to joining HAP in 2018, he championed a robust lead awareness and testing campaign focused on providing education(25 events) and testing for residents (3,400) affected by the Flint, Mich. water emergency crisis and developed a network of 100+ community partners in Flint, Saginaw and Bay City, Mich. areas within six months for Molina Health Care. As a consultant for Oasis Consultants he’s been instrumental in building alliances within Genesee County, while effectively managing all business operations, sales, marketing, product development, financing, employee training, awareness, coaching and customer service tactics. Additionally, he spearheaded a shared service partnership with the City of Flint and Genesee County implementing a pilot project with the Parks and Recreation System.
Roles he held in Genesee County include Genesee County Commissioner, City Councilman- First Ward; Vice President of Program Administration and Program Officer.
Omar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Grambling State University in Grambling, La. and a Master’s Degree in Science Management from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich. He is also a graduate of Michigan State University’s Political Leadership Program. He is part of various community organizations including the Michigan State University Extension AgBioResearch State Council, Grambling State University National Alumni Association (Life Member), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (Life Member) and the Youth Leadership Institute. Omar is a founder and mentor for the Alpha Esquire Leadership Mentoring Program.
